If you experience cosmetic or psychological discomfort due to prominent ears, surgery can help correct and reshape the ear.
We place great emphasis on ensuring that our patients are fully informed about the process before we perform any surgery. This way, everyone understands the procedure, and you can feel safe throughout the entire journey.
Prominent ears are usually caused by the outer ear lacking one of its natural folds.
Many people choose ear pinning surgery to improve the appearance of their ears and achieve more symmetrical ears that sit closer to the head.
The greatest advantage of ear pinning surgery is that it typically provides permanent results with minimal risk and a quick recovery.
Under local anesthesia, an incision is made behind the ear, and the cartilage on the front of the ear is scored, allowing the ear to naturally bend backward. Once one ear has been corrected, the procedure is repeated on the other ear. The goal is to achieve symmetry between both ears.
You will be discharged shortly after the surgery.
On the day of surgery, we recommend that you take a shower, wash your hair, and wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Remember to remove nail polish, make-up, and jewelry.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia.
You may apply a thick layer of numbing cream one hour before arriving for surgery. This will ensure that you do not feel discomfort when the doctor administers the local anesthetic under the skin.
The cream can be purchased over the counter at the pharmacy. You are welcome to bring a companion with you until you are taken into the operating room. We will guide you throughout the entire process to ensure that you feel fully prepared.
We also recommend that you prepare in advance and read the patient information before surgery.
After the surgery, you will have a head bandage that helps support the area. Underneath, there will be an envelope-like, self-adhesive dressing on each ear. This dressing must remain in place for 7–10 days, as it helps shape the ears and keep them in the desired position. It is important that the dressing stays in place, sits correctly, and does not get wet, as this will affect the final cosmetic result.
You can expect some pain, but this will subside after 3–4 days. You may take pain medication as recommended by your doctors.
